      ABSTRACT
China is in the period of a fast development. The telegraphic establishment 
is also rapidly developed. The telephone is widespread.
The old phone querying system has its limitation. It has some disadvantages 
such as nonsupport for converse query, not enough information, nonsupport fo
r obscure query. It is not fit for the demanding of development. The conflic
t between the increasing of phone query and the relative lack of the service
 supporting is increasingly acute. So it is very necessary to develop a new 
phone number querying system. The article mainly introduces the development 
result of the Kun Ming Digital Telephone System(KMDTS).
The telephone number data is quoted from "Kun Ming 1999 Phone Book", and the
 map data is quoted from the atlas of Kun Ming with a scale of 1: 15000.
Web GIS is been used in the project. With the indefinite query method, sever
al query functions are actualized.
With the research on PDA, WAP mobile phone and touching screen, the initiato
ry explore on productlization of KMDTS on them is proceeded. I think that th
e productlization on WAP mobile phone is the best choice.
More research is in needed for KMDTS. Such as, updating the database on Web,
 information's getting and response, optimization of the database structure 
and the productlization of KMDTS. We need to do more to satisfy the people.
