Admission Letters, T&G score
我:“Funded by the
University.”
He: Are you xxx? Me: Yes. They called my name in Cantonese. I
feel a little frustrated. I do not understand Cantonese quite well,
though I have been working in Guangzhou for almost two years.
H (Begin writing on my visa application form): Where are you from?
M: (Happily observe him writing) xxx.
H: So you’ll go to study?
M: Huhm. I’ll go to University of xxx to pursue my PhD in xxx this
fall. You know, I am constantly interested in xxx. I hope I could go
for an academic career in this field.
H: (Continue writing) Good. (Take a glance at my admission letters)
You’ve got a master degree? M: Yes, I got a Master in Economics from
xxx in 1998, one of the best universities in business in China. My
graduate major is International xxx. xxx is my interest. (Notice he
already turns to pages of my academic transcripts. Guide him). This is
the academic transcript of xxx, where I got a B.A. in xxx in 1995.
(He seems wondering where’s my master transcripts) Page down, page
down. This is my transcripts in xxx. I got a master there. H: (Seems
satisfied with only the heads of my transcripts. Suddenly speak in
Chinese)
M:Enh? Pardon?
M: (Get him this time) I’ve never been to 美国. I hope I could go
this fall. Xxx (the place I will go) is a beautiful place. H: Yes.
When will you come back? M: I will come back after the completion of
my study. Actually (He takes a serious look at me hearing this word.
I continue naturally though), I have talked about this issue with the
Chairman of my company last week. He invited me to be the chief
economist after I get the
doctorate. I will come back as the chief economist for my company
. I got
an invitation letter from him. (show him the letter among the
materials).
My company is one of the most largest and prosperous xxx firm
in China. H:
(Read the letter carefully. That’s the only thing he does with
care in the
whole procedure. I think maybe he is interested in what I have
said in the
letter. The letter mainly stresses the prosperity of the Company,
our
relationship with Guangzhou Consulate, and my working experience
in the
company, the invitation intent.) I know your company. Are you
married? M:
No. I am single now. H: Are you going to marry? M: (Shrug, with
a big
smile. He also smiles too, knowing that I know he’s questioning me about
my privacy) I don’t think I have such a plan in two or three years. H: Do
you have girlfriend? M: (Hesitate for a quarter of second, deciding not to
answer yes or no.) My girlfriend’s in China. H: (Finish writing) Your visa
has been approved. M: Well, thank you. If you have time, you may visit my
company. Before I came here, the Chairman of my company wants me to bring
you this word. We have a very good relationship with Australian Consulate.
We also have a good relationship with American Consulate. My Chairman hope
we could further develop our relationship with American Consulate. (The
wording seems a little silly. Too many relationships.) H: Huhm. Come back
3 this afternoon and get your visa. (Give me a notice and return all the
materials except I20 and passport to me.) M: All right. H: (Leaving the
window) Study hard and come back! M: Right!
