Spell Key
School - There are nine schools of Wizard magic. If you are a normal Mage yo
u can cast from all nine. If you are a specialist Mage then you cannot learn
spells from the schools that oppose the one you specialize in. Below is a c
hart that shows which schools oppose each other.
Range - This is how far the wizard can project the spell. If the range is "t
ouch" then the caster has to be in melee range. If the range is "0" then the
spell can only be cast on the caster himself.
Components - This is what is required to cast the spell. "V" is for verbal w
hich means the caster must be able to chant out loud, a silence effect could
prevent this from happening. "S" is for somatic which means the spell requi
res hand or body gestures. In AD&D you may also see "M" for material compone
nts these have been removed in BG2.
Duration - This is simply how long the magical effects of the spell will las
t. One round lasts 6 seconds in AD&D, one turn lasts 10 rounds so a turn is
one minute.
Casting Time - This is how long the spell will take to cast, not sure how th
ey will do this in BG2.
Area of Effect - This can depend on the spell being cast, some spells will a
ffect a radius while others may affect only one target.
Saving Throw - This is the targets chance at either partially or completely
resisting the effects of the spell.
