Joy in looking and comprehending is nature's most beautiful gift.


Whoever undertakes to set himself up as judge in the field of truth
and knowledge is shipwrecked by the laughter of the gods.


Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from 
mediocre minds.


Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and 
I'm not sure about the former.


The ideals which have always shone before me and filled me with the
joy of living are goodness, beauty, and truth. To make a goal of 
comfort or happiness has never appealed to me; a system of ethics
built on this basis would be sufficient only for a herd of cattle.


Man tries to make for himself in the fashion that suits him best
an amplified and intelligible picture of the world; he then tries
to some extent to substitute this cosmos of his for the world of
experience, and thus to overcome it. This is what the painter, the
poet, the speculative philosopher, and the natural scientists do,
each in his own fashion. Each makes this cosmos and its 
construction the pivot of his emotional life, in order to find in
this way peace and security which he cannot find in the narrow
whirlpool of personal experience.
人类总试图为自己寻找理解世界的方式，并在某种程度上用这种理解来取
代真实的经验以超越现实。这也就是画家诗人哲学家和科学家以他们各自
的方法来处理事情的方式。他们都把寻找一种建构世界和谐秩序的思维方
式当作情感生活的重心，以寻找个人狭隘的现实经历中所缺乏的宁静与安
全感。


We cannot despair of humanity, since we are ourselves human beings.


The fate of the world will be such as the world deserves.


The little word "we" I mistrust, and here's why: No man of another 
can say "he" is "I".
Behind all agreement lies something amiss.
All seeming accord cloaks a lurking abyss.
