    Russia covers an area of 17,075,200 sq. km and has a population  of almo
st 150 million people.
    Russia is a multiethnic society. The largest ethnic groups include  Russ
ians (81.5 percent), Tatars (3.8 percent), Ukrainians (3 percent),  Chuvash 
(1.2 percent), Bashkir (0.9 percent), Byelorussians (0.8  percent), Moldavia
ns (0.7 percent), etc. Over 80 percent of the  population name Russian - the
 official language of the country -  as their native. Other languages are us
ed in ethnic minority regions.
    Russia has equal religious diversity: with the main religions  being Rus
sian Orthodox Christianity and Muslim overall over 150  confessions could be
 found across the country.
    The capital of the Russian Federation is Moscow. With a populaiton  of 1
0 million, it is the largest city in the country, its principal  economic an
d political center - the seat of the President, the government  and the Stat
e Duma (Parliament).
    The country possesses a wide array of natural resources including  major
 deposits of oil, coal, natural gas, many types of strategic  minerals, diam
onds and timber.
