                       Palace plans to keep Fan

LONDON — Outstanding Chinese international defender Fan Zhiyi looks set to 
finish his soccer career in England. He signed a new three year contract wit
h League Cup semi-finalists Crystal Palace on February 2.
Fan has been at the English First Division outfit since 1998 and will be 34 
by the time his contract expires.
He has been described by coach Alan Smith as one of the finest players he ha
s ever coached and believes that promotion to the Premiership — which is un
likely this season — would be just reward for his Chinese star’s performan
ces for the club.
