State - of - the - art

我们都知道"最新技术"的英文说法可以是the newest technology, 不过还有一个很常见
的表达法，即state - of - the - art. 它既可以做名词，也可做形容词。举例：
The $ 65 million state - of - the - art museum nestling on the shores of Lak
e Geneva brings together relics of the origins of the Ancient Greek Games.
(采用最新技术的博物馆座落在日内瓦河畔，它投资6500万美元，荟萃了古希腊奥运会起
源的所有遗物。)

state前面加个介词in 便成了"十分隆重"和"有气派"的意思，常用来形容国家领导人或
皇室人.要人死了通常摆放在棺材里让老百姓观看，再行埋葬，这在英文里就叫做li
e in state, 如：
When the President died, thousands of people saw his body lying in state.
(总统逝世时，成千上万的人瞻仰了他的遗容。)

使用in state时一定要当心，因为倘若一不留神，在in和state之间加上一个不定冠词a
, 意思可就全变了，成了"紧张"、"担忧"之意，比如：
She let herself get in a state before the examinations began.
(考试之前，她心里紧张得要命。)
