Why didn’t you call me today?
周慕云:怕你不高兴嘛.
I was afraid, you won’t like it.
苏丽珍:那以后再也不要打给我.
Then don’t call me again.
(周想握苏的手,苏慢慢地躲开了)



王妈:陈太太,陈先生有信来啊,侬看一看...
Mrs. Chan! A letter from your husband.
苏丽珍:这不是我的,是隔壁周先生的.
It’s not for me, it’s for Mr. Chow next door.
王妈:周先生啊..哎呀,我么看见日本邮票,当是陈先生的,结果勿是格..哎...

苏丽珍:你老婆去日本了?

苏丽珍:哎,炳哥.你来了.

阿炳:他说嘴巴淡淡的,想吃芝麻糊..哎...嘴可真叼啊.
Can’t taste anything, so he wants sesame syrup. Damned troublesome!


孙太太:王妈,王妈.
Amah!
苏丽珍:孙太太,王妈在天台晾衣服呢.
Mrs. Suen, she’s hanging the washing on the roof.
孙太太:哎,侬倒先转来了.

苏丽珍:哦...我突然间想吃芝麻糊了.
I had a sudden craving for sesame syrup.
孙太太:个么噶大一锅侬一噶头那能吃的忒啊?
That whole pot is for you? 
苏丽珍:反正煮了,大家一块吃吧.
I thought I might as well make a potful.
孙太太:侬真客气啊.
You’re so thoughtful!
苏丽珍:尝尝?
Please try it.
孙太太:好啊.

周慕云:那么巧?
What a coincidence!
苏丽珍:是啊,你出去啊?
Going out?
周慕云:不是,我整天都没吃过东西,想出去吃碗面.你饿不饿?一块去吧?
I’ll buy some noodles, I’m starving. Hungry? Will you join me?
苏丽珍:不了.
No thanks.
周慕云:这么晚才下班,公司很忙吗?
Just off work? You must be very busy.
苏丽珍:不是...就是没事干,看了场电影.

周慕云:有时候我在想,要是还没结婚的话,现在不知道会怎么样...你有没有想过

I sometimes wonder what I’d be if I hadn't married. Have you ever 
thought of that?
苏丽珍:可能会开心一点吧...
Maybe happier!
周慕云:......

苏丽珍:我从来没有想到原来婚姻是这么复杂,还以为一个人做的好就行了,
I didn’t know married life would be so complicated! When you’re 
single, you are only responsible to yourself.
可是两个人在一起,单人自己做的好是不够的.
Once you’re married, doing well on your own is not enough.
周慕云:不要想的太多了...也许他很快就回来呢.
Don’t brood on it, maybe he’ll be back soon.
苏丽珍:你没事吗?
What about you?
周慕云:其实我跟你一样,只是我不去想,又不是我的错,为什么老是要问自己做错什
么了呢?
Actually, we’re in the same boat. But I don’t brood on it. It’s not 
my fault. I can’t waste time wondering if I made mistakes.
何必浪费时间呢?我不想这样下去.
Life’s too short for that. Something must change.
苏丽珍:那你有什么打算?
So what’s your plan?
周慕云:这几天我躺在床上翻武侠小说,我想再写,已经开了头了,过两天给你看.
I want to write a material-art serial. Actually, I’ve started one. I’
ll show it to you.
苏丽珍:好啊.
Great!
周慕云:你这么爱看武侠小说,我们一块写吧.
You like them too, so why not help me write it?
苏丽珍:哪行啊,我只会看,哪会写啊.
