苏丽珍:王妈,是我啊.

王妈:唉呦,陈太太,长久没见了.
Mrs. Chan, long time no see!
孙太太:王妈,仨柠啊?
Yes. Amah, who’s there?
苏丽珍:孙太太.
Mrs. Suen!
孙太太:啊呀,侬那能会来各拉?啊...
What brings you here? It’s been a while.
苏丽珍:是啊,很久没过来看你了,今天刚好经过这里,特地把船票带给你.
I was nearby so I thought I’d bring your boat ticket. 
孙太太:哦哦哦...

苏丽珍:买给你吃的.
And a small gift.
孙太太:上来坐坐嘛好了,啊要噶客气,还要侬破费...侬看呀,乱是乱的来...
You shouldn’t have, it’s nice just to see you. The place is in such 
a mess!
苏丽珍:还在收拾啊?
Already started packing?
孙太太:是各呀,已经理了几夜天了,么子嘛实在多,诶,各点么子嘛,勿舍得拐忒..哎
呀,连坐各地方啊没,唉...到各得坐一歇.
It’s hopeless, can’t bear to throw things away. Let’s find you a

苏丽珍:哦,好.

孙太太:王妈...

王妈:陈太太,吃茶.

苏丽珍:谢谢你,王妈.

王妈:侬不要走,来嗨各得吃夜饭,我去买小菜.
Eat with us, Mrs. Chan! I’m going to the market.
苏丽珍:不行啊,我今天晚上还得回公司.
I can’t, I have work waiting.
孙太太:哎呀,侬那能噶着急拉?

王妈:唉,吃一点嘛,侬勿吃太太要勿欢喜各...太太哦?

孙太太:我女儿啊，刚香港太乱,我一噶头住来嗨此地吗,伊勿放心.个么我实在是不
大舍得离开香港各,
My daughter worries about the situation in Hong Kong. I don’t want to 
leave. 
不过现在自从顾先生搬出字以后啊,搓麻将啊,搭子啊没,想想呢,还是到到美国去,
帮女儿领小人去算了.
Since the Koos left, I don’t have my mahjong partners anymore. And my 
daughter needs help with her kids in the US.
苏丽珍:这房子怎么办?
What about this place?
孙太太:正来嗨伤脑筋嘛...卖出去呢,真不舍得,想想还是租倍拧家.
I’m not sure… I don’t want to sell it. So I might rent it out.
苏丽珍:打算租多少钱啊?
How much would you want?
孙太太:诶,侬有意思租哇拉?租被侬嘛我真是放心各,我便宜点租被侬拉.
You’re interested? You could have it at a discount. 
苏丽珍:我想想.
I’ll think about it.
王妈:太太,喝茶.
Mrs. Suen, your tea!
孙太太:好的.

苏丽珍:对了,现在隔壁是谁?
Who lives next door now?
孙太太:嗨呀,我啊勿晓得,现在啊,隔壁邻居大家啊不来往,那能向以前年纪呢,
I don’t really know them. 
顾先生顾太太来嗨的晨况,大家真是闹忙的..象自家宁一样各..唉...想起来啊开心
,侬刚是哇?
The Koos were almost like family. It was so nice then, wasn’t it?
苏丽珍:是啊.
Yes.
孙太太:过来坐一歇.
Let’s sit over here.


房客:你找哪一位啊?
Yes?
周慕云:请问顾先生在不在?
Is Mr. Koo in?
房客:顾先生啊...搬了很久喽.
He moved long ago.
周慕云:你知道他搬哪去了么?
Do you know where he is?
房客:你跟他很熟的吗?
You know him well?
周慕云:以前我住在这里...孙太太还住在隔壁吧?
I used to live here. Is Mrs. Suen still next door?
房客:也搬了...现在这么乱,能够跑还不跑么?
She’s gone! It’s too chaotic, everyone’s running away.
周慕云:那现在隔壁住的什么人?
So who lives there now?
房客:我不太清楚诶...好象是一个女人和一个小孩子,小孩子长的满可爱的...

A woman and her son. The kid is cute.
他菲律宾的地址我找不着,只有他儿子的电话.
No address in the Philippines… Just his son’s phone number.
房客:不好意思诶...我怎么可以收你礼物呢?你拿回去吧.
I can’t accept this!
周慕云:一点点小意思嘛,你不要客气.


房客:哎..好好

周慕云:收下吧.

他一直在怀念着过去的一切;
如果他能冲破那块积着灰尘的玻璃,他会走回早已消逝的岁月.
He remembers those vanished years. As though looking through a dusty 
windowpane, the past is something he could see but not touch.
And everything he sees is blurred and indistinct.
