LONDON, July 17 (Reuters)(DS) - Factfile on Paul Gascoigne who
joined Everton on Monday on a free transfer from fellow premier
league club Middlesbrough:
1967: Born Gateshead, May 27.
1983: Joined Newcastle as an apprentice.
1985: League debut for Newcastle as a substitute against
Queens Park Rangers at St James' Park.
1985-88: Makes 106 league and cup appearances for Newcastle,
scoring 22 goals.
1988: July 18, joins Tottenham for 3.0 million pounds (4.48
million dollars).
September 3, makes debut at Newcastle, in 2-2 draw.
September 14, makes England debut as substitute against
Denmark at Wembley. England win 1-0.
1989: April 26, scores first goal for England after coming on
as substitute in 5-0 World Cup win over Albania at Wembley.
1990: Stars in Italia '90 World Cup finals as England get
through to the semifinals, only to lose to Germany on penalties.
Gascoigne's tears in the game earn him instant worldwide fame.
1991: May, ruptures cruciate ligaments in right knee in F.A.
Cup final against Nottingham Forest. Out of soccer for 16 months
(three operations), wich delays transfer to Italian side Lazio.
October, damages knee again in night-club accident.
1992: May, passes tests set by Lazio on knee and completes
5.5 million pound (8.21 million dollars) move from Tottenham.
1992: September, makes debut for Lazio against Genoa in
Rome.
1993: December, reports back to Rome after a Christmas break
with a thigh strain suffered getting out of bed.
1994: April, breaks a leg in training ground accident
putting him out of the game for a year.
1995: June 3, makes first England appearance for 15 months as
substitute in 2-1 victory over Japan at Wembley. Flies to
Glasgow after match and announces he is joining Rangers who are
managed by Walter Smith.
1996: Helps Rangers win Scottish title for eighth time and
named Scottish player of the season.
June, plays starring role in England's run to Euro'96
semifinals.
1997: Returns from injury to guide Rangers to a
record-equalling ninth League title. Welcomed back into the
England fold.
July, signs new three-year deal with Rangers to tie him to
club until year 2000.
1998: March 24: Joins Middlesbrough on three-and-a-half year
deal.
March 29: Plays for Middlesbrough in League Cup final.
May 17: Glenn Hoddle warns that Gascoigne is not sure to
make the England squad because of fitness problems.
May 18: Gascoigne photographed in tabloid on "boozy night
out". Disclosed that Gascoigne is smoking again.
May 31: Omitted from England World Cup final 22.
August: Left out of Hoddle's first training camp after World
Cup.
October 11: Enters hospital with stress and drink problems.
October 26: Makes first public appearance after two weeks in
hospital and pledges to give up drinking.
1999: February: New England manager Kevin Keegan holds out
prospect of international recall.
March: Receives one-match ban and fine after reaching 11
yellow cards.
2000: February 14, breaks arm while elbowing Aston Villa's
George Boateng. Taken off on a stretcher in tears after first
start for two months.
February 15: Charged with misconduct by F.A.
February 22: Australian side Marconi Stallions express
interest after Gascoigne manages just nine starts for
Middlesbrough in league and cup.
March 2: Receives three-match ban and fine for Boateng
incident.
May 11: Talk of loan deal with Western Australia State
League side Joondalup City. Middlesbrough boss Bryan Robson says
it is "way-over-the-top-speculation".
June 7: Linked to Finnish club FC Jokerit who said he was
offered to them on loan but turned down as too expensive.
July 17: Joins Everton on free transfer in two-year deal
re-uniting him with former Rangers manager Walter Smith.
